A sustainable procurement announcement
JinkoSolar’s sustainability news index dates its sustainable-procurement announcement to September 1, 2025. The linked company statement reports an ISO 20400 Statement of Conformity following an SGS audit, describing environmental, social and governance criteria in purchasing and supply-chain management. This is a company-reported assessment of procurement practice.
The statement concerns how a supplier manages its supply chain. It is not, by itself, an environmental declaration for every module it sells. A purchase review should distinguish the organization-level process from evidence for the exact product, factory and reporting period involved in the proposed delivery.
Separate the evidence types
An environmental product declaration, product carbon-footprint report, factory energy record and sustainable-procurement statement have different scopes. Their names should not be interchangeable in a tender response. Ask which claim the document supports and whether its covered product and boundary match the purchasing requirement.
ECO Platform’s December 2024 LCA calculation rules explain the importance of declared units, system boundaries and reported life-cycle modules within its EPD framework. They provide a basis for inspecting a declaration. They do not make unrelated reports comparable or establish a universal carbon threshold for all PV procurement.
Compare matching boundaries
Before comparing carbon values, identify the unit, covered processes, electricity assumptions, production location and reporting period. Ask whether transport, service-life assumptions or end-of-life scenarios are included. A lower value with a narrower boundary is not evidence of an overall improvement without adjusting the comparison.
Specify the evidence expected by the tender, the accepted calculation basis and how the proposed module is identified. Record the issuer, verification statement, validity and product coverage. If an average declaration covers multiple factories or models, ask how the delivered variant maps to that average and what limits apply.
Trace the claim to the delivered product
A supplier can change manufacturing energy or material sourcing substantially while a shipment still needs a coverage check. Link the purchase order and module identification to the accepted report. If location or material sourcing changes, ask whether the reviewed evidence still applies and who approves the updated record.
This is a document-control task as well as a sustainability question. Keep the evaluated report version, supplier explanation of scope and agreed exceptions together. An audit or later change is easier to resolve with that record than with promotional labels detached from the equipment being delivered.
Keep carbon and technical acceptance connected
Assess carbon evidence alongside electrical, mechanical and reliability requirements. It does not resolve string compatibility, protection selection or installation constraints. A proposal that meets a carbon requirement needs the same product-specific engineering checks as another proposal.
The announcement is one example of formal supply-chain governance entering the supplier record. Its value is prompting better coverage and traceability questions. This update does not claim a universal purchasing premium, tender mandate or carbon reduction for a named module without the corresponding product report.
Frequently asked questions
Does ISO 20400 conformity certify every module as low-carbon?
No. The cited statement concerns sustainable procurement practice. A product claim needs evidence covering its module and calculation boundary.
Can two reported carbon values be compared directly?
Check units, system boundaries, production assumptions and product coverage first.
Does carbon evidence replace electrical qualification?
No. Carbon assessment and electrical, mechanical and reliability acceptance address separate requirements for the same delivered product.
