Read the architecture in its original time frame
An 800 VDC data-centre architecture roadmap announced in May 2025 outlined a power-distribution direction for future AI infrastructure, including a 2027 horizon. Reviewing it in 2026 does not turn the original roadmap into a new commissioning announcement.
The primary source describes an architecture and ecosystem direction. It does not substantiate an unrelated claim that a particular silicon-carbide superjunction device achieved first mass production during 2026.
Higher distribution voltage changes several interfaces
Raising distribution voltage can reduce current for a given power, but the complete design includes conversion stages, conductors, protection and the loads that accept the resulting supply. A single voltage label does not define that chain.
Identify where AC becomes DC, where voltage is converted again and where equipment can be isolated for maintenance. Losses should be evaluated across those stages rather than inferred from the distribution-voltage change alone.
DC protection requires its own review
A data-centre DC bus needs devices and switching arrangements rated for its voltage and prospective fault conditions. AC equipment suitability cannot be assumed, and converter fault behaviour must be considered alongside any energy storage connected to the bus.
Insulation coordination, earthing, connector access and safe service procedures also change with the architecture. Semiconductor switching speed is one contributor to converter design; it does not certify the assembled distribution system.
Keep semiconductor and renewable claims in scope
SiC and GaN may serve different conversion stages depending on device ratings and circuit design. The roadmap alone cannot establish that either technology is mandatory throughout the facility or interchangeable in every converter.
Nor does a DC architecture establish renewable electricity sourcing. A PV connection would require an explicit conversion, control and protection design. Procurement should follow the documented facility interface rather than a presumed direct connection between solar strings and server racks.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a new 2026 installation report?
No. It is a review of a May 2025 roadmap with a future deployment horizon.
Does 800 VDC imply all devices use SiC?
No. Device choice depends on the voltage, topology and requirements of each stage.
Can PV arrays connect directly to the facility bus?
Only a designed and approved interface can establish compatibility, protection and control.
